Style Inspiration: Gone With the Wind

I’m kind of on a Vivien Leigh kick right now, and to be perfectly honest, that almost always makes me want to re-watch Gone With the Wind. I’ve always loved GWTW, the drama, the scenery, the romance, and come on, most importantly, the costumes.

Designed by Walter Plunkett, the costumes in GWTW are all out. Bloomers, corsets, hoop skirts, layers of bloomers, and then comes the actual dresses. The only way we could wear a dress even remotely like this would be if we were attending our prom, or maybe the Oscars, and the women of our past wore them every day. Lush velvets, deliriously beautiful satins, lace, tulle, all detailed with embroidery, beads, tassels, and fringe. It’s enough to make one swoon, no wonder they had to take afternoon naps every day!
